DANCE INSTRUCTION
Sherry Zunker has been teaching dance for nearly three decades. She has been a faculty member of The Gus Giordano Jazz Dance Center, The Lou Conte Dance Studio, and The Ruth Page Foundation. Currently she teaches master classes, workshops, and university residencies throughout the United States and abroad.
In addition to teaching intermediate, advanced and professional dance students, Sherry has developed movement classes for actors, taught senior citizens to salsa, and coached hundreds of singers to move with confidence and ease.
Ms. Zunker’s mission is to make every student fall in love with dancing. Her classes awaken the body, stimulate the mind, and feed the soul.
Sherry’s passion is in teaching the “dancing” of dance – the art of expression, integration of musicality, and how a dancer manipulates the in-between moments of given choreography.
Community Outreach Programs
Sherry created River North Chicago’s dance education program for inner-city schools, entitled “Street Beat”. The program exposes how trends in American culture (political, music, fashion, etc) affect the ever-changing face of American jazz dance. This program has been expanded by River North and is still utilized as the base of their national outreach program.
Sherry also co-created, directed and choreographed a dance performance entitled Teenage Wasteland. Ellen Huston, Artistic Director of Rochester Dance Company, enlisted Sherry to help her create a forum for teenagers to express their true experiences and feelings. The teens’ views on school, relationships, sex, bullying, war, and the world were utilized to create a dance performance igniting honest communication between parents and their children.
